Rebar Group

During Urban Play Rebar Group transform selected places in the harbour into adventurous landscapes that evoke curiosity and rediscover neglected places.

Playscape of Wood and Sand

From large pine poles stacked in Søndre Havn and loaded and shipped abroad, Rebar have created a hilly landscape, with wooden columns, that you can explore and play in.The hills are made of sand also from the harbour and its still working industry. On the empty industrial site a new forest appears and brings cut down trees back in the ground.

The Ground is Poisonous

From the grain that is loaded in the harbour Rebar has sown a field, on a poluted space, that will grow up during the exhibition.  A raised walkway tells you where you may walk and leads you into a space where you can throw grain, allowing the field to grow further.

Biography

Rebar Group (USA) works in the intersection between landscape, design, art and activism – based on the philosophy that human interaction, community and curiosity make the foundation for a rich life. In an eventful, value creating and playful expression Rebar’s projects critically interpret and discuss who has the right to the public space. Parking spaces are transformed into parks for a day, residual land are made into small oases and car wrecks are rebuild into scenes. As a multidisciplinary collective Rebar use the different disciplines to create surprising and new ways to use the city’s spaces and functions.

Rebar also contributed to our conference Contemporary art, play and temporality in 2010 with a lecture and workshop.
